Q1 General

Q: How can I access the PCCW mobile International Wireless Broadband service?

A: You may access the service via the PCCW mobile 3G network, by dial-up via Wi-Fi.

Q: On which operating systems does the Roaming Dialer run?

A: The Roaming Dialer runs on Windows 2000 SP4, XP Professional and XP Home Edition.Service Packs 1 and 2 are required for Windows XP Home Edition.

Q: Can I use the Roaming Dialer in languages other than English?

A: Yes. The Dialer can display English, Japanese, German, French, and both traditional and simplified Chinese.

Q: How can I check my usage and my connection speed?

A: Just click the Status tab.


Q2 WiFi related

Q: How can I search for a wireless hot spot?

A:To find a wireless hotspot, can simply click on Find a Location - Wi-Fi screen.

Q: I know there is a wireless hotspot nearby but the Roaming Dialer does not display the WiFi signal. Why?

A: The application does not display the signal for a number of reasons:

- There may have been a change in the hotspot at that location. Make sure you have the latest Phone Book updates.

- You may be in an area not reached by the hotspot signal. Such areas are known as dead zones

- Your WiFi LAN Card may not be properly installed or you may not have the up-to-date driver


Q3 Dial-up related

Q: How can I choose a dial-up number?

A: The Roaming Dialer will automatically choose one for you based on the location that you enter on the New Connection - Dial screen.To select a phone number manually, click Phone Book.

Q: I need to dial a prefix (eg 9) before the actual phone number. Where should I enter it? 

A: Select or enter a dial prefix at the Dial Prefix field on the New Connection - Dial screen.

Q: I cannot find a local number. What should I do?

A: If you cannot find a local number, use the Phone Book screen to check for toll-free phone numbers.

Remarks: Not all toll-free numbers are free of charge. Some are chargeable in certain countries and destinations.

Q: I am unable to connect to a phone number. What should I do?

A: Try the following:

- Verify that you have a dial tone and that you are entering the correct username and password.

- Make sure you have entered necessary dial prefixes.

- Try to connect to another number.

Q: I cannot get a dial-up connection. What should I do? 

A: Please make sure:

-  A modem is properly installed in your PC.

- the correct modem is selected (click Advanced and select from the Hardware Device drop-down list)
